BTRC: Call drop compensation from Oct 1

Mobile subscribers will get compensation for call drops from October 1, says Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC).

It says subscribers will get 30 seconds for the 1st and 2nd call drops and 40 seconds for the 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, and 7th ones in compensation.

The commission disclosed the information in a press conference at its auditorium in the capital on Monday.

It said the compensation would be valid for up to 15 days.

Grameenphone recorded 49.6 per cent call drops while the rates for Robi and Banglalink were 41.45 per cent and 8.95 per cent respectively in May, according to BTRC data.

BTRC Chairman Shyam Sunder Sikder said, “We have allotted the mobile phone operators the required spectrum and are working on tower sharing.”

“I do not want to tolerate even a 0.5 per cent call drop. It has to be less than that. We are trying to bring call drop down to zero.”
