The Information and Communication Technology Division on Sunday declared 29 government institutions as critical information infrastructures to protect them from possible cyber-attack.
The President’s Office, the Prime Minister’s Office, the Bangladesh Bank, the National Board of Revenue (NBR), the Bangladesh Data Center Company Limited, the Bridge Division, the Directorate of Immigration and Passport, the National Data Center and Bangladesh Computer Council (BCC), the BTRC, the National Identity Registration Wing, the Election Commission Secretariat, and the Central Procurement Technical Unit are among the prominent installations on the list.
The list also includes Sonali Bank, Agrani Bank, Janata Bank, Rupali Bank, Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant Project, Biman Bangladesh Airlines, Immigration Police, BTCL, Bangladesh Electricity Development Board, Power Grid Company of Bangladesh, Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company, Central Depository, Bangabandhu Satellite Company Limited, Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission, Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh, Office of the Registrar General (Birth and Death Registration), Dhaka Stock Exchange and Chittagong Stock Exchange.
The ICT Division circular said the move aims at protecting sensitive and important information of the 29 entities, it said. In August, ICT State Minister Zunaid Ahmed Palak at a programme said national security infrastructures, especially telecommunication, power and banking sectors are under potential security risk.
He also said Bangladeshi infrastructures were facing foreign state-sponsored cyber-attacks using their armed forces domain in recent days.
