Meta sorry for longest ever WhatsApp outage

WhatsApp’s owner Meta Platforms Inc has apologised for the outage faced by billions of people worldwide, including Bangladesh, on the messaging service.

WhatsApp users in Bangladesh claimed there were disruptions across the country.

Outage detector website Downdetector.com showed a rise in the number of complaints from around 1pm (Bangladesh time).

“We know people had trouble sending messages on WhatsApp today. We have fixed the issue and apologise for any inconvenience,” a Meta spokesman told AP.

WhatsApp, Meta’s popular messaging service, was down for more than an hour for billions across the world.

According to AP, a WhatsApp spokesperson said the company was aware some people were having trouble sending messages and that it had fixed the issue and apologised for any inconvenience.

As per Downdetector.com, a website that tracks outages across the internet, WhatsApp outages spiked around 12:20pm IST. This lasted for more than an hour before users could send and receive messages on the messaging app again.

Downdetector.com reported a significant rise in complaints around WhatsApp outage and nearly 29,000 reports were flagged by users. Downdetector’s heatmap was showing WhatsApp users in major cities, including Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Kolkata, were impacted by the disruption.

WhatsApp, a free messaging service, has crossed the threshold of two billion users.
