Cyclone Sitrang caused a little damage but had a major impact on the business and commerce in Chattogram.
The Chittagong Port became operational after the cyclone crossed the coast, but the operation was not normal yet on Tuesday.
The operational activities at Chittagong Port, the country’s main gateway, were disrupted for three consecutive days till Monday due to the cyclone.
Besides, the loading and unloading of goods at Mongla Port resumed on Tuesday morning after remaining suspended for around 27 hours due to inclement weather caused by Sitrang.
The port authorities were forced to suspend all operations on Monday morning due to the intense cyclonic storm, reports BSS.
Mongla Port Harbour Master Captain Mohammad Shaheen Majid said they had to suspend all port activities for 27 hours. “No damage has been reported.”
Mohammad Omar Faruq, secretary of Chittagong Port, said since Tuesday morning, ships from the sea have started returning to the jetty. Earlier, the port was evacuated as a precautionary measure before the cyclone hit the coast on Monday.
Port sources said the unloading of goods at the outer anchorage has been closed since Sunday. A total of 61 ships loaded with goods were at the port on Tuesday.
