Govt to procure 1.20 lakh tonnes of fertiliser

The government will purchase 1.20 lakh tonnes of fertiliser under four procurement proposals.

The industries ministry proposed to procure 90,000 tonnes of fertiliser while the agriculture ministry proposed to purchase 30,000 tonnes.

On last Wednesday, the Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase (CCGP) approved the proposals through a circular.

As per the proposals, 30,000 tonnes of bulk granular urea fertiliser will be procured from Fertiglobe Distribution Limited of United Arab Emirates under state agreement, 60,000 tonnes of bulk granular urea fertiliser from Saudi Arabia’s Basic Industries Corporation, and 30, 000 tonnes of TSP fertiliser from Moroccan company OCP SA under an agreement between Morocco and Bangladesh Agriculture Development Corporation.

According to the circular, Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal ordered to approve these proposals through issuing a circular in accordance with the rules of business 1996.

Several Finance Division officials said that if a meeting is not held for any emergency, a public procurement proposal can be approved through circular.

The CCGP meeting is usually held every Wednesday with the finance minister in the chair. But, on last Wednesday, the minister approved the proposals through a circular without holding the meeting.
