BGMEA chief hopeful on better days ahead

The country’s ready-made garment (RMG) market will see growth in the upcoming days, shaking off the ongoing downturn due to global economic volatility, the president of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) said on Sunday.

“We are optimistic that the market share will increase in the upcoming days,” Faruque Hassan said at a view exchange meeting at BGMEA’s conference room in the capital’s Uttara.

He said, “Bangladesh is currently the second largest clothing exporter in the globe and will soon take the first position in apparel exporting to Europe.”

The time has come to promote the country in the global arena and the BGMEA has been taking initiatives to that end, said the BGMEA president at the meeting focused on branding the country.

On the importance of promoting the country, he said, buyers offer fair prices if the country ensures strong branding in the international market. In addition, the branding also helps to build a lasting relationship with the importing nations.

As part of its initiatives to promote the country on the global stage, the BGMEA, in collaboration with other organisations, is working to send rickshaws to Europe to be exhibited at the Manchester Museum.

“The exceptional initiative will play a pivotal role in branding the nation,” Faruque said. Besides, BGMEA is sponsoring the upcoming international T20 and ODI wheelchair tournament to expand the talent of disable people and brand the country in the international sports arena. Bangladesh will play in the tournament.

Faruque urged the Bangladesh missions in foreign countries to play a pivotal and active role in branding the country.
