The construction of the third terminal of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) is moving fast and 51 per cent work have already been completed till now, said Air Vice Marshal M Mafidur Rahman, the Chairman of the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh.
“Hopefully, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate this terminal in October next year,” he said while talking to the members of the newly elected committee of Aviation and Tourism Journalists’ Forum of Bangladesh (ATJFB) at his office in Dhaka’s Kurmitola on Sunday.
The CAAB chairman said, “The speed of work will increase in the next year. The infrastructure construction is almost completed, and now the necessary equipment will be installed.”
According to CAAB and project sources, the terminal is being constructed on 542,000 square metres of land and will have a floor space of 230,000 square metres accommodating 115 check-in counters, 64 departure counters, and 64 arrival immigration desks.
Besides, the parking space will accommodate 1,230 vehicles at a time and there will be a 542,000-square-metre apron for 37 aircrafts. Also, there will be 26 baggage scanning machines, 11 body scanners, 12 boarding bridges, and 16 luggage belts.
The terminal building is being constructed on 230,000 square metres. And the project is being implemented at a cost of Tk 21,300 crore.
ATJFB President Md Tanzim Anwar requested the CAAB chairman to take the initiative to organise workshops to improve the skills of journalists in the aviation sector.
He said, “ATJFB is always working to improve the skills of journalists in this sector with workshops. The training of journalists will be easier with the help of CAAB.”
