Beanibazar gas field resumes supply to national grid

The supply of gas to the national grid from well number 1 of Beanibazar gas field in Sylhet started on Monday evening.

After five years of abandonment, State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry Nasrul Hamid virtually inaugurated the gas supply process at 6:00 pm.

Deputy General Manager (DGM) of Beanibazar Gas Field Engineer Abdul Jalil Pramanik said that gas was experimentally supplied to the national transmission line on Sunday night. Every day 7-8 million cubic feet of gas can be supplied to the national grid from this well.

Managing Director of Sylhet Gas Field Limited (SGFL) Md Mizanur Rahman said gas supply to the national grid started after completing all technical preparations.

Gas extraction from well number 1 of Beanibazar gas field started in 1991. It was closed in 2014. In 2016, gas extraction started again, but for a few months only. The well was abandoned since early 2017.

But recently Bangladesh Petroleum Exploration and Production Company (BAPEX) found gas reserves again exploring the well.
