Bangladesh national cricket team were thumped by 227 runs in the third and final One-Day International of their three-match series against India at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram, which was essentially a dead rubber following the Tigers’ victories in the first two matches, which had ensured their series win.
On Saturday, Bangladesh failed to put up any competition as they were first bashed all around the park by Ishan Kishan, who became the fourth Indian batter and the first Indian against Bangladesh to score a double ton in the format as he scored 210, and then with the bat, all batters from Bangladesh failed to leave a mark.
Ishan’s innings, along with Virat Kohli’s ton, allowed India to put up a mammoth 409-8 on board, the highest team total against Bangladesh in the format.
In reply, Bangladesh barely put up a fight as they were bowled out for 182, 227 runs short of India and 28 short of Ishan. The defeat was Bangladesh’s second-biggest loss in the format, behind their 233-run defeat to Pakistan in 2000.
The left-handed Indian opener, who scored 210 off 131 balls hitting 24 fours and 10 sixes, broke several records in one day as he became the first batter to convert his first century to a double, and also became the holder of the highest individual innings against Bangladesh in the 50-over format. He was aptly supported by Kohli, who picked up his 44th ODI ton and ended up scoring 113 runs off 91 deliveries.
While Ishan took home the player of the match award, it was Mehidy Hasan Miraz who expectedly won the award for the best player of the series. The Bangladesh all-rounder was the star of the show in the first two ODIs and ended the series with 141 runs and four wickets.
“This is the first time I’m getting the Player of the Series [award] in ODIs. It’s [beating India] a start for our team. We have a World Cup in front, and I hope we can get better,” Miraz said after the match.
Bangladesh skipper Liton Das, whose tenure as ODI skipper ended on Saturday, at least for now, praised Ishan for his innings.
