Chattogram Customs, Excise and VAT Commissionerate has awarded five top companies of the division for their outstanding contribution in paying the Value Added Tax (VAT) in fiscal 2020-21.
The awards were given at an event held at the World Trade Centre in Agrabad, Chattogram on Saturday, on the occasion of National VAT Day, 2022.
Land Minister Saifuzzaman Chowdhury graced the event as the chief guest and handed the awards to the highest VAT payers. Chattogram Customs Excise and VAT Commissionerate Commissioner Syed Mushfiqur Rahman presided over the event.
Intern Metal Industries Chittagong Ltd contributed the highest VAT in the manufacturing sector, while Escorp Apparels Ltd paid the highest VAT in the business sector.
M/s Jamuna Traders in Chattogram district, Simon Beach Resort Limited in Cox’s Bazar district, and Venus Resort & Coffee House in Bandarban district paid the highest VAT in the service sector.
“Every taxpayer should collect VAT challan after purchase of goods or services,” the minister said. He welcomed the participation of taxpayers in the economic development of the country by paying revenue.
The land minister also handed over a check of Tk 1 lakh to the 1st prize winner of last month’s EFDMS lottery. NBR holds a lottery on invoices generated by the Electronic Fiscal Devices (EFDs) or EFDMS of each month on the fifth day of the following month.
“To build a self-reliant nation there is no alternative to paying VAT,” Syed Mushfiqur Rahman said. He also congratulated all taxpayers and businessmen on the occasion of VAT Day.
This year’s National VAT Day is being observed with the slogan “Unnoyoner VAT Niti, VAT Diye Gorbo Jati.”
Customs, Excise and VAT Training Academy Director General Mohammad Mahbuzzaman gave a welcome speech on the occasion, while Chittagong Storms Bond Commissioner Commissioner AKM Mahbubur Rahman presented the keynote.
National Board of Revenue (NBR) VAT implementation and IT member Moinul Khan, Chittagong Tax Appeal Region Tax Commissioner Safina Jahan, Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Mahbubul Alam, and Chittagong Women Chamber of Commerce & Industry President Monowara Hakim Ali were present as special guests at the event.
