A significant number of visitors thronged the REHAB fair at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre (BICC) in the capital on Friday, with most of them showing interest in small flats.

The fair saw large crowds as it was the weekend.

Talking to The Business Post, a number of visitors said they were looking for small or medium-sized apartments as per their affordability.

One of them, Touhiduzzaman from the capital’s Mohammadpur area, said he has long been planning to buy an apartment in Dhaka and was looking for detailed information about it.

“It is good to find everything here at the fair under one roof. I am finding a small flat that I can afford with my savings. I will book one in Mohammadpur if everything matches,” he said.

Nafiza Yasmin coming to the fair from Abdullahpur was also looking for a small or medium-sized flat that she could afford.

“I could not come to the fair earlier because I have a job. Today is a holiday, and that is why I am here. I am checking which companies have projects in Uttara that will be suitable for me,” she said.

“I will come again tomorrow, if necessary. However, since I have come with my family, I hope to book a flat of my choice today.”

At the stalls, the housing companies’ representatives were presenting information about their flats and plots to potential buyers, offering various discounts, gift cards, and loan facilities to boost their sales.

Visitors along with their families and friends walked around as they visited different stalls, looking for flats and plots matching their budgets. They were happy to see companies were offering home loans and various other facilities, making the purchase of their dream houses easy.

Real Estate & Housing Association of Bangladesh Vice-President Kamal Mahmud said the housing companies were offering all types of flats, including small and medium, at comparatively low prices at the fair.

“They are also offering various gifts, including loan facilities. They are trying to make it easy for visitors to purchase the flats the latter is looking for. We request people to visit the fair and they will find the flats within their affordability,” he said.

Engineer Mohd Shohel Rana, vice-president (finance) at REHAB, said companies would not be able to offer flats at such low prices in the future.

“Because of complications in the Detailed Area Plan (DAP) and the rising prices of construction materials, flats will become costlier in the future,” he explained.

The fair which started on December 21 will end tomorrow, on the day of Christmas, at 2pm.

This year's fair has 181 stalls. There are two types of tickets – single-entry tickets cost Tk 50 and the ones with multiple-entry are sold at Tk 100.
