The Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation (BSCIC) can set up a fund for resolving the compliance issues of Leather Industrial City by taking money from the Green Climate Fund, said Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister Md Tofazzel Hossain Miah.

He made the remark on Saturday while visiting the Leather Industrial City and CETP located at the Hemayetpur area in Savar, adding, “If we all work together for solving any problem then we can easily achieve compliance – especially the environmental ones.

“Such issues will be resolved easily if we manage to do so.”

Tofazzel also provided some guidance on post-investment services for tannery owners so that they can get a good return on their invested money.

Industry Secretary Zakia Sultana said in her speech, “We are working to solve the problems of the tannery industry. “If everyone works together, then we can solve this problem easily within a short time.”

Meanwhile, Secretary of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change Farhina Ahmed said, “We had visited this industrial city and CETP before, and gave some recommendations. If they are implemented, it will be possible to overcome ongoing issues.”

BSCIC Chairman Md Mahbubur Rahman, deputy commissioner of Dhaka, senior officials of various levels of the government, tannery owners and local dignitaries were present at the programme among many others.
