A mobile court conducted by the Chattogram district administration fined the privately-owned Esack Container Depot located at Halishahar near Chittagong Port for not having a fire safety plan and sufficient fire extinguishers.
“At the same time, the mobile court also fined readymade garment manufacturer Adila Apparels Limited,” Pratik Dutta, an executive magistrate of Chattogram district administration, told The Business Post.
He said, “An unlicensed petrol pump was found on the premises of Esack depot. Besides, the container depot never approved or implemented a fire safety plan, although it has been in business for 22 years. There were several thousand containers in the depot which had only 350 fire extinguishers. The company was fined Tk 2 lakh and ordered to apply for the licence of the petrol pump within seven days.”
Adila Apparels, located beside Dobhash Ghat in Banglabazar area in the port city, was fined Tk 150,000 for not having any fire safety plan and adequate fire extinguishers, an underground water tank, and an alternative exit plan in the garment factory. Pratik Dutta conducted the mobile court on behalf of the Chattogram district administration.
