Trade fair creates jobs for students

The month-long Dhaka International Trade Fair comes every year as an opportunity for educated youths, particularly students, to gather practical job experience along with earning some money.

Dozens of companies and business houses offer part-time jobs to college and university students for a month and they get a response from thousands of students.

The fair organisers said it is a great opportunity for the students to gather experience and earn some money.

Around 2,000 to 2,500 students get employed temporarily in the fair and it is a positive sign for the country’s corporate sector, they said.

The financial packages offered by companies for the part-timers are lucrative and rewarding also, several pavilion in-charge told The Business Post.

Per day income of the part-timers varies between Tk 500 and Tk 2,000, they said.

“We have appointed 10 students as part-timers,” said Roni Molla, in charge at the pavilion of Minister brand electronics. Md Mosleh Uddin, pavilion-in-charge of Partex Furniture, said they offer attractive payments with other facilities, which help the students to gather practical experience and earn money.

Several part-timers said working at the trade fair is exciting for them as they come into contact with thousands of visitors. It creates scope for them to make contacts with high-profile people, international visitors and companies for their future work after completing their studies, they said.

One of them said many of his friends went abroad and do part-time jobs there. “If we get the scope at home, there is no need for going abroad,” he said.
