Digital Mela ends with high visitor turnout

The Digital Bangladesh Mela 2023, the largest exposition in the country’s IT field, ended on Saturday with a high visitor turnout.

The Posts and Telecommunications Division organised the fair in association with the Internet Service Providers Association of Bangladesh (ISPAB). It showcased IT and Information Technology Enabled Services (ITES) products and services.

The three-day event saw a congregation of ICT companies, personalities, professionals, key policymakers, industry leaders, and other ICT stakeholders.

ISPAB President Imdadul Haque said, “We are really overwhelmed by the interest of the visitors.”

“We organised a competition for young innovators at the fair where participants from different universities displayed their projects. The three best inventions were awarded through votes,” he said.

He also said, “The speciality of this year's fair is that although the budget for organising it was Tk 5 crore, we did not have to spend the government money, except the amount for renting the venue. We got the required money from sponsors.”

Three private telecom operators – Grameenphone, Banglalink, and Robi – and Teletalk exhibited various products and services at the fair. Various multi-national companies like Huawei and ZTE also showcased their latest technologies to the visitors.

“We participated in the fair with our solutions for some very important verticals like smart education, smart healthcare, smart digital power, and smart port. We also demonstrated how industries can benefit from Huawei Cloud and 5.5G,” said Tanvir Ahmed, head of media at Huawei Technologies (Bangladesh) Limited, the titanium sponsor of the event.

“As a global leader in the ICT industry, Huawei invests a significant amount of its revenue in research and development. We want to facilitate others and share the knowledge with ICT ecosystem partners and youths. The fair was a perfect platform to achieve that,” he added.

Posts and Telecommunications Minister Mustafa Jabbar said the Digital Bangladesh Mela was an exceptional fair.

“It was a place of learning or acquiring knowledge. Many people from children to the elderly participated in it and gained new experiences.”
