The newly-built 12-storey building of the National Board of Revenue (NBR) in the capital’s Agargaon was officially handed over to the NBR on Sunday, with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina scheduled to inaugurate it on February 5 instead of February 4.

The premier will also attend a revenue conference, set to be held on the same day at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre (BICC), as the chief guest. Assistant Private Secretary-1 of the prime minister Ismat Mahmuda has sent a letter to the revenue board in this regard.

“The prime minister has consented to attend the revenue conference at BICC as the chief guest and also the inaugural ceremony of the new NBR building,” said the letter.

Earlier, the Internal Resources Division (IRD) under the finance ministry issued a notification, saying the prime minister will inaugurate the building on February 4.

The handover ceremony on Sunday was presided over by NBR Chairman Abu Hena Md Rahmatul Muneem while members of the revenue board and other officials, including Public Works Department Chief Engineer Mohammad Shamim Akhter and Chief Architect Mir Manzurur Rahman, were also present.
