Smart education required to make smart citizens

Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni on Monday said that making Bangladesh smart is not possible without development of the education system and smart education is needed to develop smart citizens.

Dipu Moni came up with the remarks while addressing as the chief guest at a ceremony of awarding of gold medals to meritorious students at Kazi Nazrul Islam Auditorium in Rajshahi University.

RU Vice-Chancellor Prof Md Sultan-ul-Islam presided over the event while Pro-VC Prof Md Humayun Kabir, and Agrani Bank CEO and managing director Md Murshedul Kabir also spoke among others at the event.

Dipu Moni said Bangabandhu had said investment in education is the best investment and he had wanted to build Sonar Bangla. Bangabandhu had brought massive changes in the education system.

She said that all universities should have an academic master plan, which should be changed as per the need. Researches should aim at making it useful for our future, she added.

The minister also said training for the university teachers should be arranged through the University Grants Commission and knowledge should be acquired in any subject.

“To stop unnecessary wastage of students; we introduced a cluster system admission test. Bangabandhu wanted to introduce one-way education but it has become multi-way education in the country,” she added

About reported errors in school textbooks, Dipu Moni said they will discuss the issue and called on all to show the ‘mistakes’ not making lie. “Speak truthfully. The path of truth is difficult. Liars can have no place in independent Bangladesh,” she said.
