HSIA to keep runway closed 5hrs every night from today

The runway of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) will remain closed for five hours every night for the next two months for renovation of the lighting system.

The works will start at 2am on Thursday. Air traffic will remain suspended from 2am to 7am every day. Scheduled flights will be shifted to other times of the day.

The airport’s Executive Director Mohammad Kamrul Islam said, “Initiatives have been taken to install lights on the central line of the runway in an effort to increase the capacity of flight management and further improve the quality of passenger services.

“For this, the runway will remain closed from February 2 to April 3 from 2 am to 7 am. ATM department of the airport has issued a notice in this regard.”

The official said that a surge of flights may be seen during the replacement works. A monitoring team will oversee the entire process to ensure uninterrupted journey of esteemed passengers, he said.
