Essential commodity prices have soared alarmingly, going beyond the financial capacity of buyers with limited income. In this situation, Mujibur Rahman Milon has organised a special project called “Gariber Bazar” in Nawabganj for the underprivileged people.

Gariber Bazar, which translates to “poor man’s market,” is targeted towards low-income people, mostly local rickshaw pullers, shop workers and factory workers. Products at this market are available at half the regular market price.

The initiative was launched on February 9 with the slogan “Buy as much as you need.”

About 50 underprivileged families availed this facility on the opening day of the market. Each family had the opportunity to buy rice, pulses, oil, flour, eggs, and other commodities from this market at half the regular market price.

The price of a bundle package of 16 items was Tk 650 at this market, half of the regular market price which is Tk 1,300.

Regarding the initiative, Mujibur Rahman Milon said, “We want to continue this trend during the upcoming month of Ramadan.

“I have always stood by the side of helpless and poor people in difficult times, and will continue to do so in the future.”

The entrepreneur of this initiative also expressed the hope that such markets will be operated in locations all across the country someday.

Editor and CEO of Voice Asian, ICT Program Planner of Bangladesh Television (BTV) and Freelance Journalist Engineer Mosarrof Jewel and Sub Inspector of Nawabganj Thana Ajit Kumar Roy inaugurated this special Gariber Bazar program, organised by Mujibur Rahman Milon.
