Micro entrepreneurship summit held

More than 300 micro entrepreneurs from across the country participated in the first ever Micro Entrepreneurs Summit at Krishibid Institution in Dhaka on Sunday.

Bangladesh Women and Youth Entrepreneurs Forum arranged the day-long summit aiming to help promote the small local businesses and marking its founding anniversary.

Attending a session at the summit, SME Foundation Managing Director Md Mafizur Rahman said the SME Foundation is trying to develop small and medium entrepreneurs across the country to create new employment opportunities. SME Foundation will help more small and medium enterprises to secure the ISO certificate in the current financial year, he added. “Bangladesh has to import many processed products. If we our small entrepreneurs can make such processed food, we can reduce our imports and it is very crucial for us,” he said.

Bangladesh Women and Youth Entrepreneurs Forum President Abdullah Al Hasan Saqib said, “Real development is not possible only by providing incentives and loans to big businesses. Small entrepreneurs are the main force of development in the country. They need more government support and training.”

Saqib called upon all the entrepreneurs to do business with integrity and increase efficiency.

UNDP Bangladesh Entrepreneurship Eco-System Program Specialist, Futurenation National Consultant and Deputy Secretary Abul Khair Mohammad Hafizullah Khan, Bangladesh Bank SME and Special Program Department Director Zaker Hossain, Abacus IT Chairman Zaheer Iqbal, Digital Village Foundation Vice President Zahiduzzaman Sayeed, among others, also spoke at the event.
