Facebook users in the country have shrunk by a big margin of 1.25 crore in the last six months, according to a recent report by Poland-based social media management platform NapoleonCat.
There were around 4.65 crore Facebook users in Bangladesh in January, down from the highest 5.89 crore recorded in July, stated the report.
According to Napoleoncat data, 26.6 per cent of the total population in Bangladesh uses Facebook. Of them, male users account for 68 per cent and female users 32 per cent.
Besides, by age group, 44 per cent of the Meta-owned social media users are young people aged between 18-24 years.
Poland-based social media management platform NapoleonCat said in its report. Users of Instagram and Messenger– also owned by Meta– have also decreased consistently in the last six months in Bangladesh.
According to Napoleoncat, the number of Instagram users dropped by 6.7 lakh during the study period while the number of Messenger users decreased by 1.1 crore.
Meanwhile, LinkedIn, another popular social media among professionals, also dropped in the past months.
LinkedIn saw its number of users drop to 18 lakh in January from over 50 lakh in July last year.
Another report by DataReportal, the number of users that advertisers could reach on Facebook in Bangladesh dropped by 3.7 million between October 2022 and January this year.
However, in a regulatory filing on February 3, Meta said Bangladesh is in the list of the three countries that spend the most time on Facebook as of December 31, 2022.
The company also reported a 4 per cent increase in worldwide daily active users (DAUs) to 2 billion on average during December 2022 from 1.93 billion during December 2021.
“Users in Bangladesh, India, and the Philippines represented the top three sources of growth in DAUs during December 2022, relative to the same period in 2021,” Meta said.
Bangladesh stood third among the top three contributors in terms of monthly active users.
