Several Japanese companies are planning to invest in Bangladesh, said Iwama Kiminori, newly appointed Ambassador of Japan to Bangladesh.
He recommended authorities concerned to improve infrastructures and transportation means in the country’s economic zones (EZs) to draw more investment.
The Japanese envoy made the remarks during a meeting with Local Government and Rural Development Minister Tajul Islam in the minister’s office on Wednesday.
Ambassador Kiminori said if the connecting road and the infrastructures of the Japanese Economic Zone in Araihazar improved, the EPZ would get more investment. “At present, several Japanese companies are waiting to invest in the country.”
Drawing similarities between Narayanganj and Japan’s Naruto city, he said, “A city-to-city partnership cooperation agreement could be reached that would benefit both cities.”
Naruto is located in the northeastern tip of Tokushima prefecture on the island of Shikoku. The city is located in the easternmost part of the Sanuki Mountains.
Meanwhile, the ambassador also talked about the ongoing projects in Bangladesh with the help of Japan and expressed keen interest to invest at Chittagong port to improve its sewerage system.
