Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET) became first among the country’s public universities to enter the era of digital documentation (D-document).
ICT State Minister Zunaid Ahmed Palak inaugurated the first phase of the D-document programme at the University Grants Commission (UGC) in the capital on Monday.
CUET Vice-Chancellor Mohammad Rafiqul Alam started the programme on behalf of the engineering university by logging in with his digital ID and sending a letter to the country’s ICT division.
Through the D-document system, the university files will be digitised. The responsible people at all levels, including the vice chancellor, will be able to approve files from anywhere at any time.
This will reduce the university’s time and cost, as well as ensure paper savings, transparency and accountability. Apart from this, work mobility will increase in administration and academic fields.
All the public and private universities of the country will be brought under the D-document programme gradually.
Seven more universities are coming under the D-document in the first phase.
These are Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST), Khulna University, Haji Mohammad Danesh Science and Technology University, Maulana Bhasani Science and Technology University, Noakhali Science and Technology University, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Maritime University and Sheikh Hasina University.
CUET acting registrar Sheikh Mohammad Humayun Kabir, ICT System Analyst Tauhidur Rahman and Deputy Registrar SM Mokhtarul Mostafa were present at UGC during the inauguration.
