11th Travel and Tourism Fair begins Thursday

The three-day 11th Bangladesh Travel and Tourism Fair (BTTF) is all set to begin at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre (BICC) in Dhaka on Thursday.

The Tour Operators Association of Bangladesh (TOAB) is organising this international tourism fair since 2007. FirstTrip is the title sponsor, and Sheraton Dhaka is the hospitality partner of the latest edition. At a press conference at a hotel in Dhaka on Tuesday, TOAB Director (Trade and Fair) Md Anwar Hossain said that visitors will be able to enter by paying Tk 30 entry fee. However, freedom fighters and students will not have to pay the entry fee.

He said the fair authority has taken initiatives to make it more attractive than last year. The event is supported by the Civil Aviation and Tourism Ministry, Bangladesh Tourism Corporation, Bangladesh Tourism Board, FBCCI and Tourist Police.

This time, the fair will have 146 stalls and 14 pavilions at three halls in BICC. The three-day event will be open to visitors from 10am to 8pm daily.

“We will hold two seminars and various cultural events during the fair. We hope 60,000 visitors will attend the fair over three days,” he added.

Anwar said national tourism organisations, boards and associations, tour operators and travel agents of different countries, including Nepal, Maldives, Sri Lanka, United Arab Emirates, Vietnam, Japan and Turkey, have already confirmed that they will participate.

Along with them, various international and domestic airlines, hospitals, travel agencies and operators, hotels, resorts and cruise liners will participate as exhibitors, he said.

TOAB President Shiblul Azam Qureshi said that BTTF is the largest and most popular tourism fair in the country and its main purpose is to create awareness, promote tourism and maintain sustainable development.

“We hope businesses, domestic and foreign tourists and tourism industry representatives will create great enthusiasm among everyone at this year’s fair. It will expand the industry and play an important role in the country’s economy,” he said.

Unique Hotel and Resort Limited’s CEO Shakawath Hossain said, “In a bid to explore new tourist spots, the government and the people involved in this sector have to take steps and develop necessary infrastructure in potential areas.

“Some areas in Bhola, along with Monpura, should be given more consideration as tourist attractions.”

Bangladesh Tourism Board’s Chief Executive Officer Abu Taher Muhammad Jaber, former TOAB President Md Rafiuzzaman, and FirstTrip’s COO Hasnain Rafiq were present and spoke here.
