A number of young men and students wore Yukata, a traditional Japanese dress, while taking pictures in different poses standing with a sword that looks like samurai behind was the background of Japanese culture.

They had very much joy on their face. They also wanted to take picture like this. Even there was a lot of competition between the friends who would go first.

On the other hand, two students were seen shaking their heads wearing VR gear. If anyone who passes by them thinks what has happened to them. But they are having a lot of fun.

Besides, two people, who looked like Japanese man and woman, were seen talking to many people. But they were talking in Bangla and explaining various things about Japan and distributing leaflets and brochures among people.

The focus of interest was on Japanese pavilion participating for the first time in Bangladesh Travel and Tourism Fair (BTTF)-2023 organised by Tour Operator Association of Bangladesh (TOAB) at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre.

Soon after opening of the fair on Thursday, visitors packed into the Japanese pavilion.

An O level student named Ariyan Hasanat said that earlier he visited Malaysia and Singapore with his parents. “I have a lot of interest in Japan for its improvement with technology. I want to study engineering and visit Japan. So, I came here.”

While talking to this correspondent, Booth Operation Manager Yuko Fukushima said they came here to promote Japanese tourism. “We are trying to highlight our tradition.”

Mentioning that Japan, for the first time, took part in a tourism fair in Bangladesh, Fukushima also said that in their pavilion, visitors can take pictures wearing yukata. Besides, wearing VR, anyone can see some of Japan’s various tourist destinations and culture in 360 degrees angle. “It is very attractive to visitors.”

Saddam Hossain, an executive of Japanese pavilion, told the Business Post that many Bangladeshis think that Japan is a very expansive country. Most people go to Japan from our country either for study or business purposes. But there is a huge area of tourism in Japan. Their main objective is to promote it.

There are various tourist destinations in Japan including Tokyo, Osaka, Hiroshima, and Nagasaki. “We are trying to show how a person should travel in Japan through various brochures or leaflets,” he said.

While speaking at the opening ceremony, Ken Komine, head of public relations and culture, First Secretary of Embassy Japan said, “Japan National Tourism Organisation (JNTO) has participated in Bangladesh Tourism Fair for the first time. I sincerely want that visitors will show interest to visit Japan. I invite and welcome them.”

He also said that Japan has service-oriented hospitality like Bangladesh. There is a harmony between our two countries. In 1916, Rabindranath traveled to Japan in 26 days by ship from Kolkata. He was fascinated by Japan’s natural beauty and its own culture. But now it can be reached by plane in a short time.

Kanako Suzumori, Senior Director of JNTO, at the opening ceremony said he heard that many Bangladeshis show interest in Japanese culture. “This is my first visit to Bangladesh. I am very impressed by humanity and delicious foods here. So, I hope Bangladeshi people would visit Japan in large numbers and have similar experience,” she added.
