Keeping the theme of ‘Making a Difference with Zakat’ in mind, a two-day long Zakat Fair is going to start tomorrow for the eleventh time.

“Chairman of the Economic Research Group Professor Wahiduddin Mahmud will inaugurate the fair to be organised at Aloki Community Centre on Gulshan Tejgaon Link Road in the capital,” said AMM Nasir Uddin, member secretary of the fair organising committee, at a press conference at Economic Reporters’ Forum auditorium in Dhaka on Thursday. There will be a zakat consultation desk, and stalls of Islamic book sellers and zakat organisations at the fair which will be open to all from 9am to 7pm.

Centre for Zakat Management chairman Niaz Rahim, former secretary of Bangladesh government Arastu Khan and Chief Executive Officer of Centre for Zakat Management Ayub Miah were present at the press conference.

AMM Nasir Uddin said, “Zakat Fair is organised to popularise the idea of ensuring social and economic security of all people through zakat.”

He called upon the country’s civil society members and wealthy people to visit the fair to learn more about the actual calculation of personal zakat and business zakat methods.

A number of six sessions will be held at the zakat fair. An inaugural seminar, titled “Social Safety Net Program and Role of Zakat”, will be held at 11 am on the opening day. There will be a special seminar and question-and-answer session for women on the topic of “Role of Women in Establishing Salah and Zakat in Society” at 3 pm on the same day.

At the same time, another session, titled “Future Ambassadors of Zakat”, will be held in a separate hall. Apart from this, prizes will be distributed among scholarship-wining students of schools and madrasas.

In the morning on second day of the fair, a seminar on “Role of Imams and Khatibs in Institutional Management of Zakat” will be held. A roundtable session on “Corporate Social Responsibility: Coordination of Zakat and CSR Funds” will be held in the afternoon.

Former governor of Bangladesh Bank Saleh Uddin Ahmed will be the chief guest at the roundtable to be participated by prominent thinkers and the development experts and moderated by former secretary Arastu Khan.
