A fire broke out at a cotton warehouse in front of a container depot in the Chhoto Kumira area of Sitakunda upazila in Chattogram on Saturday morning.
The fire was yet to be brought under control till filling of this report around 9pm. A total of eight firefighting units were working to douse the blaze, Kumira fire station Senior Officer Sultan Mahmud said.
“No casualties have been reported by far. However, the fire has been spreading to adjacent infrastructures,” he added.
“Due to the wind, adverse conditions have been created for the fire fighters to work. However, we have surrounded the warehouse. So, there is no chance for the fire to spread outside. It may take much time to extinguish the fire,” he said.
Unbearable heat with smoke hampered the operation. The members of the fire service could not go closer to the spot to sprinkle water, said several of the rescuers.
The fresh incident occurred just seven days after a horrific blast took place at a plant in Sheema Oxygen Ltd in Sitakunda. Seven people were killed and 30 others injured in the explosion.
