LABCCI signs MoU with BIDA to enhance trade, investment

The Latin America-Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LABCCI) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) aiming to open a new door for trade and investment among Bangladesh and Latin American countries.

LABCCI President Md Anwar Shawkat Afser and BIDA Marketing and Communication Executive Member (Additional Secretary) Md Matiur Rahman signed the MoU on behalf of the respective sides at the PMO in Dhaka on Wednesday afternoon.

BIDA Executive Member Md Matiur Rahman chaired the signing ceremony.

Mentioning that the signing of the MoU has provisioned a new era, LABCCI President Md Anwar Shawkat Afser said, “LABCCI now got the affiliation from the Prime Minister’s Office, BIDA. Now business societies from Latin American countries may get more confidence to invest and trade in Bangladesh by the collaboration of LABCCI.”

The president of the business association highlighted the upcoming event “Bangladesh Investment B2B (Business to Business) Event in Latin America 2023” which will be jointly organized by BIDA, Dutch-Bangla Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DBCCI) and LABCCI in the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, Argentina and Brazil held in between 6-17 March this year.

Under the leadership of Prime Minister’s Private Sector Industry and Investment Adviser Salman Fazlur Rahman, a delegation with representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Commerce, BIDA, Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority (BEZA), Hi-Tech Park Authority and high-profile Bangladeshi and European Businessmen will participate in the mega event.

According to the LABCCI president, the objectives of the delegation will be attracting Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) from Latin American businessmen to invest in the potential sectors in Bangladesh to explore and promote Bangladeshi products and services to the Latin America region and also to promote business from Latin America to the emerging Bangladesh market.

These B2B and networking seminars will be held focusing on the sectors including agriculture, food processing, textile, processing plant for soya beans, sunflower, iron ores, petroleum oils, fertilizer, readymade garments (RMG), wood log, export of jute, leather and pharmaceuticals.

BIDA Executive Chairman (Senior Secretary) Lokman Hossain Miah assured his association’s continuous support to the delegation.

“The investment will not only guarantee their (investors) presence at the country’s domestic market having 17 crore populations but also to facilitate them to enter into a market of 300 crore people including the population of India and China as well,” he said.

Special guest of the program Nahid Ferdousi, Commercial Specialist in the Brazilian Embassy in Dhaka in his speech showed strong Brazilian interest in further enhancing ties with Bangladesh in all business aspects.
