With the theme “Wear clothes that tell a real story of people and the planet,” the Fashion Design Council of Bangladesh’s (FDCB) flagship venture the Bangladesh Fashion Week 2023 began at Aloki Convention Center in the capital’s Tejgaon Thursday night.
Known as the most prestigious fashion event in the country, Fashion Week has brought collections of 18 members of the FDCB and interesting creations of six designers from India.
The exhibition brings together fashion designers, retailers and luxury stakeholders in one place, putting the spotlight on sustainable and long-lasting fashion.
This year, the two-day fashion week is being organised by Buy Hair Now, MTB, Strix, Maya, Ujjwala Care, and Natura Care.
The event started with a tribute to the late designer and fashion pioneer Emdad Haque, who died on December 23 last year. Emdad was the vice-president of the FDCB.
The main sponsor of the fashion week, Apex Footwear, then introduced the consumers to a new collection of women’s wear called Jatarea. The collection is created by combining traditional fabrics with contemporary tastes and designs.
The collection is wearable for all seasons and crafted for consumers ranging from the working housewife to the busy entrepreneur. The outfit was accompanied by shoes by Mucci, another brand of Apex, and shoes by Nino Rossi.
Ujjwala Care then introduced its different products, including anti-hair loss oil, skin-lightening oil and anti-hair loss shampoo for women and men. The brand has a unique portfolio of personal care products.
After these two presentations, FDCB President Maheen Khan informed the audience about the journey of the council and how it is playing an important role in preserving the local heritage along with the artisan community.
After that, the main exhibition showcased fashion collections of 12 FDCB and Indian designers – Chandana Dewan, Gunjan Jain (India), Afsana Ferdousi, Rifat Rahman, Tasfia Ahamed, Sadia Rupa, Iba Malai (India), Nawshin Khair, Imam Hassan, Tanha Sheikh, Rimi Nayak (India), and Kuhu Plamondon.
The second and last day of the Fashion Week will be held at the same venue tonight and will feature Apex’s footwear and Strix’s hairstyle.
After that, Maheen, Shah Rukh Amin, Parmita Banerjee, Tenzing Chakma, Rukhsana Esrar, Madhuri Sanchita, Lalthelenmawai Chenkul, Lipi Khandkar, Kamrul Hasan Riad, Faiza Ahmed, Soumitra Mondal and Shaibal Saha will showcase their collections.
