Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni on Sunday said the role of parents in creating a congenial environment for entrepreneurs in the country is very important.
“Most of the students, after obtaining degrees from the university, are looking for jobs instead of becoming an entrepreneur and creating employment,” she said.
Dipu Moni came up with the remarks while addressing the 23rd Convocation of Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) held on its campus in the capital’s Bashundhara Residential Area.
She also urged the students to come forward to change the fate of people and build an ideal society.
Eminent economist Prof Dr Wahiduddin Mahmud was the convocation speaker while IUB Board of Trustees Chairman Abdul Hai Sarker, Vice Chancellor Tanweer Hasan, and Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof. Niaz Ahmed Khan also spoke at the event.
Prof Wahiduddin Mahmud said, “Physical infrastructure is important for the economic development but at the same time, without skilled human resources, infrastructure becomes like a skeleton which has no ability to do anything on its own.”
He urged the students to use their acquired knowledge and education in productive works for the economic development of the country.
A total of 1,459 students--1,140 from undergraduate level and 319 from graduate level--took part in the 23rd Convocation.
