Telecom operator Robi Axiata Ltd in collaboration with the government’s Aspire to Innovate (a2i) programme has launched Direct Operator Billing (DOB) system for the first time in Bangladesh, to facilitate the payments for availing government services.
With the DOB services, the users will be able to make the payment by using mobile balance for availing government certifications or Prottoyon and myGov services, said a press release issued on Wednesday.
With the addition of DOB, citizens registered with the Prottoyon (https://prottoyon.gov.bd) and myGov (https://www.mygov.bd) platforms can easily pay for the certificate service from home using their Robi mobile balance.
Due to the very simple process of DOB based payment services, even the marginalised section of the population will be able to do it, the release read.
Earlier, using the Prottoyon portal, citizens of Bangladesh could apply for various government certificates online to their mayor or councilor or chairman. However, if they did not have the access to digital payment mechanism, they had to go to the government offices to pay the fees.
“The initiatives of a2i programme of the Cabinet and ICT Divisions supported by UNDP have emerged as a blessing for the people in terms of making life easier and boosting people’s access to citizen services,” it read.
Dewan Muhammad Humayun Kabir, project director of a2i, Rezwanul Haque Jami, head of e-commerce, a2i, and National Consultant Mohammad Moshiur Rahman, Robi’s Chief Corporate and Regulatory Officer Shahed Alam, Vice President (Public Affairs and Sustainability) Sharif Shah Jamal Raz, and General Manager (VAS and New Business) Shafiq Shamsur Razzaq, among others, attended the launching ceremony.
