Marine Fisheries Academy tuition fee increased

It has been decided to increase the tuition fee and other fees of Marine Fisheries Academy from 100 to 25per cent. It has also been decided to charge a one-time fee for those who dream to become a Marine Cadet in the future, though getting admission in Marine Fisheries Academy is difficult and Increasing these fees will make it more difficult.

The decision to increase the fee was taken in the budget review meeting chaired by the finance secretary on March 21. Earlier, on March 12, the Ministry of Fisheries and Animal Resources had recommended an increase in fees from the Marine Fisheries Academy in Chittagong.

According to the decision, the tuition fee of cadets has been fixed at Tk700 earlier it was Tk350. Penalty (per cadet) for cancellation of cadetship is Tk1 lakh, earlier it was Tk75, 000. And the admission fee (one time) is Tk5, 000 but at present there is no such fee.

According to sources in the meeting, this decision has been taken to increase non-tax revenue collection of the government.

Due to Covid-19 crisis and the Russia-Ukraine war, the financial situation of Bangladesh along with the whole world is in turmoil. In this situation, the government has taken various initiatives to strengthen the financial base of the country. As part of this, the tuition fee of Marine Fisheries Academy is being increased from 100% to 25%. Apart from this, a one-time fee has also been charged.

So far the Marine Fisheries Academy of Chittagong has produced many skilled and qualified marine cadets. After graduating from Marine Fisheries Academy, the cadets are working with reputation not only in Bangladesh but also in ships outside the country and also earning foreign exchange.

Marine Fisheries Academy admits cadets in the three-year BSC in Nautical, BSC in Marine Engineering and BSC in Marine Fisheries courses under the National University.
