Non-government teachers and employees on Tuesday placed eight-point demand, including a 100 per cent festival allowance and nationalisation of the education system in the country.
The teachers and employees of MPO-listed institutions came up with the demands at a press conference held at the National Press Club in the capital under the banner of ‘Shadhinata Shikkhok Karmachari Federation’.
Federation’s chief coordinator Md Shahjahan Alam Saju in his written statement said, “We are always in the field for the demand of nationalisation of non-government institutions.”
He said, “We have continued to communicate at various levels, including the highest levels of the government, to realise our demands.”
“Only Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina can announce the nationalisation of the education system. And we hope that she will announce the decision on nationalisation very soon,” he added.
The demands include: nationalisation of the education system, giving 100 per cent festive allowance for MPO-listed teachers and employees, ensuring housing rent and medical allowance equal to government teachers and employees, giving MPO facilities to all board-affiliated schools, colleges, madrasas and technical institutes, withdrawal of anti-liberation forces from various departments of the education administration.
They also demanded providing free devices, notebooks and other educational materials to all students and providing midday tiffin under government initiatives, implementing the system of transfer of teachers against vacant posts, allocating sufficient funds to the Teachers’ Welfare Trust and Retirement Board to alleviate the plight of retired teachers and employees.
The other demands are: Stopping political interference in the management committees of the educational institutions and nominating people of the clean image with minimum degree pass in the management committees of school level and minimum master's degree pass in the governing body of college-level institutions.
