This year’s minimum Fitra has been set at Tk 115 per individual, with a maximum at Tk 2,640.
Fitra is an obligatory charity distributed to the poor at the end of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.
The decision was made at a virtual meeting of the National Fitra Fixing Committee held on Sunday with its Chairman and Baitul Mukarram National Mosque’s Khatib Hafez Maulana Mufti Mohammad Ruhul Amin in the chair.
Fitra, also known as Zakat al-fitr, is the compulsory charity that Muslims have to give to the poor before the Eid day prayer congregation or Jamaat.
As per Islamic ruling, the rate of Fitra is fixed on the basis of market prices of flour, dates, cheese, raisins and some other essentials.
Muslims can give the Fitr from any of the above products based on their market value according to their ability, as local retail market prices of the above products may vary. Without giving these alms, Eid is considered incomplete for the Muslims.
