The scorching summer already making life unbearable is about to get even hotter in the coming days with meteorologists fearing temperatures may rise above 40°C.

Bangladesh recorded a maximum temperature of 39 degree Celsius in Chuadanga on Sunday, according to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department. The seething heat is caused by moderate heat waves which intensified from mild category on Saturday. At present, mild to moderate heat waves are sweeping across different parts of the country.

When the temperature remains between 36 and 38 degrees Celsius, it is called a mild heat wave, according to meteorologists. When it remains between 38 and 40 degrees Celsius, it is a moderate heat wave. Temperature in between 40 and 42 is called severe heat wave and above 42 is called a very severe heat wave.

“This hot condition will remain in the next three to five days. And there is less possibility of rainfall in the next two to three days, Abdul Mannan, meteorologist of BMD told The Business Post. Moreover, BMD said in its weather forecast that the day and night temperature may rise slightly over the country over the next few days. The weather may remain dry with temporary partly cloudy skies over the country.

“The heat wave is currently dominating the south and west parts of the country. It will cover the districts of the middle region of the country,” he said.

A mild to moderate heat wave is sweeping over Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal and Rajshahi divisions.
