Dutch-Bangla Chamber of Commerce & Industry (DBCCI) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority (BEZA) to set up the “European Economic Zone” at Mirsarai upazilla of Chattogram.
Executive Chairman of BEZA, Shaikh Yusuf Harun joined the ceremony conducted by BEZA’s Binita Rani, manager (deputy secretary), Investment Promotion & Monitoring-3. Md Moniruzzaman, joint secretary, general manager (Investment Promotion) and DBCCI president Md Anwar Shawkat Afser at the BEZA Conference Centre in Dhaka on Monday.
“BEZA agreed to manage an economic zone named, “European Economic Zone” at Mirsarai on a 100-acre piece of land. Exportable products for the European market and high technology machines will be produced there,” the DBCCI president told The Business Post.
“DBCCI has recently got the affiliation from the Prime Minister’s Office. Now Dutch businessmen may feel more confident to invest in Bangladesh through the collaboration of DBCCI,” he added.
He hopes that this will encourage European investors to invest in the economic zone. A new era has been started by the signing of the MoU.
Shaikh Yusuf Harun said Bangladesh’s economic zones will provide a safe sector for foreign investment. He appreciated the DBCCI Board of Directors for their initiative to attract Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) from the Benelux region as well as from other parts of Europe, according to a press release.
He assured his support for this delegation and mentioned that the government has created an amiable environment for investment in the economic zones.
Shawkat Afser highlighted the upcoming event “Bangladesh Investment Road Show in the BENELUX-2023” which will be jointly organized by BIDA, BSEC and DBCCI in the Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg from 23 to 30 September 2023.
Representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Commerce, BIDA, BSEC, BEZA, Hi-Tech Park Authority, and high-profile businessmen from both Bangladesh and Europe will participate in the mega event.
“This may be a great opportunity for European businessmen to invest in the potential sectors of Bangladesh. To explore and promote Bangladesh’s products and services to the Benelux region as well as to promote business from the region to the emerging Bangladesh market,” he added.
B2B and networking seminars will be held in the sectors of agriculture and agro-food processing, finance and banking, blue economy and water resources, engineering, and export as well as equipment production plants for cars, medical, petroleum, textile, jute and leather goods.
