Senior Secretary of the Finance Division under the Ministry of Finance Abdur Rouf Talukder has been made the new governor of the Bangladesh Bank for the next four years.

The Financial Institutions Division under the ministry issued a notification announcing his recruitment in the post on Saturday.

Abdur Rouf will replace incumbent Governor Fazle Kabir, whose extended tenure is going to end on July 3 next.

According to the notification, the appointment of Rouf will be effective from July 4 or upon his joining date under condition of his retirement from the government service and severing his working ties with all other organisations and institutions.

He will receive his salaries, allowances and other facilities from the central bank as per the conditions of his agreement with the government, it added.

Abdur Rouf Talukder joined the Bangladesh Civil Service in February 1988 (BCS 1985 batch), according to the Ministry of Finance.

He worked in a wide range of government positions in his long career but his specialisation in public finance and economic management has brought him back to the Finance Division at almost every rank of his career.

He worked more than 18 years in the Finance Division before elevating to the position of finance secretary on July 17, 2018.

Apart from his long career in the Finance Division, Rouf has served in the ministries of industries, food, and Information.

He also worked at Bangladesh High Commission, Kuala Lumpur as first secretary (commercial).

Rouf received the 'National Integrity Award, 2021'. He also led the Finance Division to achieve 'Public Administration Award 2021' at the National Level Technical Institution category.
