Banking hours to remain unchanged in extended lockdown

Bangladesh Bank on Sunday asked the all the scheduled banks to continue banking hours from 10:00am to 2:00pm during the lockdown extended till May 23.

Banks will remain open until 3:30pm for other banking activities after closing the customer services amid the ongoing lockdown to curb the Covid-19 pandemic. 

The central bank on Sunday issued a circular in this regard soon after issuance of a circular by the Cabinet Division to extend the lockdown.

All the banks are asked to run banking activities with necessary manpower as per the schedule during the lockdown, the circular said.

During transaction hours, banks have to ensure services including clearing of cheques, withdrawal and deposits of money, money transfer, release of remittance, encashment of different instruments and also receipt of the payments of bills of different utilities, said another circular of the Bangladesh Bank.

Disbursement of loans, incentives, payment of salaries of different industries and also the purchase of export bills, loan sanction and distribution, according to the circular would also continue, it said.
