Ex-SBAC chair accused of graft, embezzlement

The Anti-Corruption Commission has accused South Bangla Agriculture and Commerce Bank’s former chairman SM Amjad Hossain of embezzling a huge sum of money through loans approval to Khulna Builders Limited, a non-existent company.

He also allegedly embezzled Tk 374 crore provided to his company Rupsha Fish in loans through fake documents.

The ACC has summoned nine current and former officials of SBAC for questioning on Sep 26.

They are – former managing director Rafiqul Islam, Management Trainee Officer Topu Kumar Saha, Senior Officer Bidyut Kumar Mondol, Assistant Vice-President and Operations Manager Monjur Alam, Vice-President and branch chief SM Iqbal Mehedi, Senior Executive Officer Khaled Musaraf, First Vice-President Ziaul Latif, Senior Executive Vice-President Mamunur Rashid Mulla, and Deputy Managing Director Shaukot Ali.
