The Rajshahi Krishi Unnayan Bank (RAKUB) has strongly requested borrowers to pay back outstanding loans.

"We have the highest scope in terms of loan repayment under different policies of the Bangladesh Bank and the RAKUB," said RAKUB Managing Director Md Zahidul Haque, while addressing a clients' conference in Rajshahi Saturday.

RAKUB organised the conference on loan recovery in Rajshahi division at the Office of the Divisional Commissioner with the participation of 49 borrowers and other stakeholders.

The bank’s Chairman Md Raisul Alam Mondal spoke as the chief guest with Divisional Commissioner GSM Jafarullah in the chair.

Deputy Managing Director Kazi Abdur Rahman, general managers Md Atikul Islam, Maksuda Nasrin and Sawkat Shahedul Islam, and deputy general managers Ziauddin Akbar and Mahmudul Alam also spoke at the event.

The RAKUB has been operating its banking activities as the largest development partner in all 16 north-western districts of Rajshahi and Rangpur divisions targeting its agricultural sector and all its sub-sectors.

Chairman Raisul Alam Mondal urged the borrowers to repay their loans timely for their greater interest in borrowing further loans.

He mentioned that outstanding loans always create obstacles towards the smooth functioning of banking activities besides generating a bitter atmosphere between the bank and the borrowers.

He sought all-out support from the clients in the field of timely recovery of the loans.

Mondal urged the zonal and branch managers to keep in contact with the borrowers and give suggestions to them properly so that they can contribute to this field meaningfully.

In response to the call, some of the borrowers assured him of repaying their loans within the shortest possible time.

Managing Director Zahidul Haque told the meeting that the RAKUB has been contributing a lot towards bolstering the agro-based economy through financial investment in the country's north-western region.

The specialised state-owned commercial bank has been providing loans to grassroots farmers to supplement the government’s efforts of making the country self-reliant in food production.
