Apple iPad 9th Gen: Is it a value-for-money device?

When Apple hit on the market with its ninth generation of the iPad on 14th September 2021, anxious consumers began to anticipate where the device is a value-for-money product. The newest iPad was disregarded, much like that strange “relative” at a family gathering who no one knows how they’re connected, and much like that metaphorical cousin, the iPad 9th generation tried to create a stir.

Design

The iPad looks like an inexpensive tablet, with its high-quality casing and first-rate craftsmanship. However, in comparison to the iPad Air and Pro, the casing is much thicker and somewhat heavier, and the Pro models’ angular-modern look may not be to everyone’s liking.

While the dimensions are 250.6 x 174.1 x 7.5 mm. The weight has been decreased by precisely three grams. However, the iPad 10.2 in is still somewhat heavy at 487 grams, 30 grams more than the iPad Air 4 and a few millimeters bigger. If you want a really portable iPad, you must choose the 293gram iPad mini.

Display

Since 2019, Apple has offered 10.2in panels for the iPad. Although the margins are somewhat large, the luminance and color reproduction is outstanding, and the resolution is equivalent to that of the sister models. Instead of the so-called P3 color system, like with previous versions, just the sRGB color is supported. However, this is likely to be noticed only by photographers.

With a brightness of a little around 500 cd/sqm, the panel is adequate for outdoor work but falls short of the iPad Pro versions. Night Shift is now supported, and for the first time, the automated color-correcting True Tone is integrated.

Cameras

The back camera remains a mess, sporting the same 8MP single-lens camera with a /2.4 aperture seen on the original iPad for years. This is not restricted to FaceTime; it works as well with Zoom, Teams, and TikTok. Due to Centre Stage, the iPad will always frame the video conference in such a manner that if users move, the camera will follow them, and if another party joins the conversation, the frame will broaden to accommodate them.

Performance

We addressed the CPU in relation to the camera module before, but there is much more to say. The new iPad has an A13 processor, which was first introduced in the iPhone 11 and 11 Pro. Two high-performance and four high-efficiency cores contribute to the system’s overall performance.

Among the other benefits of the A13 is the enhanced neural engine, which Apple claims is around 20% quicker than the one in the A12 processor.

Battery and Charging

The battery capacity remains 8557 mAh, which is actually more than the 7732 mAh of the 11in iPad Pro. The new iPad’s battery life is strength; in our online browsing test, it lasted around 13 hours which is around 29 minutes longer than its predecessor. In our second test, the iPad, like its predecessor, lasted over 6 hours while viewing a film at maximum brightness.

The iPad, like its predecessor, has a 20W USB-C power adapter. However, Apple has increased its charging speed in comparison to its predecessor. The previous iPad could only charge 15% in half an hour on the fast-supplied power source; now, it can charge 20% in half an hour. Rather than four hours and twenty-one minutes, the smartphone is completely charged after almost three hours.

Price of iPad 9th Gen in Bangladesh

None of the versions of the latest iPad is available in Bangladesh right now. However, users can pre-book the iPads within the price range of BDT 40,000 to 50,000.
