Vivo V23 Pro Review: Does the quality concur with the look?

Vivo’s V-series has developed from mass-market mid-rangers to a performance beast that challenges the limits of industrial designs and ergonomics. This time, Vivo launches V23 Pro, a spec monster crammed with high-end technology and a cryptic colour-changing design that sets the tone for the new year. The phone has its first appearance on 5th January 2022. Let’s check out the key features, and price of Vivo V23 Pro in Bangladesh.

Design

Vivo is no stranger to oddly shaped phones, but with the V23 Pro, the brand has excelled itself. From a distance, the gadget resembles a standard Android phone, with a sleek frame supporting the phone’s curved display and swooping back together. Having said that, up close, users will see that the phone’s shimmering back begins to change colour the moment sunlight strikes it.

To illustrate, Vivo has used Fluorite AG glass in the V23 Pro, which reacts to UV rays. It changes the exposed area of the phone’s normally golden back to a blue-ish colour when exposed. The colour-changing effect is as distinctive as it is mesmerizing, and users will be hard pushed to find any phone on the market with a comparable design attribute. To summarize, the V23 Pro adds a creative twist to a traditional smartphone design.

Display

The Vivo V23 Pro comes with a 6.56-inch curved AMOLED display with FHD+ resolution. The panel delivers a refresh rate of 90Hz, which isn’t the fastest by last year’s standards but is still a notch faster than smartphones with 60Hz displays.

Now, if anyone has never been a fan of curved-screen phones, the V23 Pro is unlikely to alter his mind. To that end, despite its attractive design, the phone’s display suffers from poor palm rejection. Additionally, the panel ships with a very large notch at the top, which takes some getting used to.

Rear Cameras

The Vivo V23 Pro has a triple camera panel with a 108MP primary sensor, an 8MP Omni vision ultrawide sensor, and a 2MP macro sensor.

The images taken with the phone’s main sensor are less than ideal. Indeed, when users go through the gallery included below, they will see that photographs taken during the day lack detail. The same can be seen in the picture with the blue generator grid, where the tree on the left-hand side of the frame looks to have been lifted directly from a watercolour painting.

The leaves, in particular, lack substance, and the flower pots on the lower right look to be mushy as well.

Fortunately, the sensor’s colour science is not excessive, and scenes are often represented realistically. In low light, the smartphone’s primary sensor performs an adequate job of keeping scene details. The photographs are extremely grainy, especially when using the night mode.

Front Cameras

For selfies, the gadget has a 50MP primary selfie camera augmented by an additional 8MP lens for wide-angle selfies or groupies. The smartphone’s 50MP selfie camera captures stunning selfies. Performance and Software

Devices powered by MediaTek’s Density 9000 SoC are imminent, yet Vivo has opted for the tried-and-true Dimensity 1200 CPU in its current offering. To illustrate, the Density 1200 was one of the most VFM SoCs in 2021, and the chipset continues to amaze, racking up impressive results in simulated testing applications. 

The tablet also performed excellent while multitasking, which may be attributed to the device’s lightning-fast UFS 3.1 storage and LPDDR4x RAM, which significantly decreased load times when switching between various applications. Battery and Charger

The V23 Pro is powered by a 4,300mAh battery, which, regrettably, does not last long enough to carry users through a long work week. Indeed, the test was conducted with the phone plugged in at about 6 p.m., with my use consisting of viewing YouTube videos, transferring audio to my Bluetooth earbuds, and interacting with people through a variety of social media and networking applications. Fortunately, the smartphone comes with a lightning-fast 44W charger that charges the handset in a little over an hour.

The phone is not officially launched in Bangladesh. Converted from the Indian currency, the price of the phone can start around BDT 44995. The conversion rate here is 1 INR = 1.15 BDT.

Bottom Line

For the price, the smartphone has several interesting features, including a colour-changing back and a pair of competent selfie cameras. Nonetheless, the smartphone’s price puts it in direct competition with more powerful and feature-rich handsets powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 888 chipset. For example, the iQOO 7 Legend retails for around the same price and boasts superior performance.
