Walton is one of the leading electronic brands in Bangladesh. The company was founded in 1977 and is currently one of the largest tech conglomerates in Bangladesh serving almost all the areas of consumer electronics. The company moved into the mobile devices with feature phones back in 2007 and since then they foraged into smartphones as well. In continuation of the company’s affordable superlative devices, Walton recently launched the Walton Primo GH11 on 25th April 2022. The device is being hailed as the local flagship killer as it incorporates a solid spec with a very aggressive price. Let’s find out more.
Design and Build Quality
Before diving into the details, users should understand that this is a sub 10,000 BDT device. International phone brands operating in Bangladesh struggle to provide a barely managing device at this price range. So beyond its obvious cut corners, the device is still a great performer keeping the price in mind.
Starting with the design, there is a little shift from its predecessor, the Primo GH10. The overall form factor and the port selection remain the same from the previous iterations. The notable change is seen on the back where there is a two-tone vertical finish. The device is completely plastic with a glass front. But the subtle dual texture with a light-reflective finish gives it a much more premium look compared to its build.
Can it uphold the reputation of ancestors?
Moving onto ports and buttons, the device has a physical fingerprint scanner on the back just like the GH10. The accented power button gives the device its unique look from the side. The bottom of the device features the micro-USB port, bottom-firing speaker, and mic. The 3.5 mm headphone jack is situated at the top. There isn’t any secondary noise cancellation mic here and considering the price the choice isn’t surprising.
There are two sim trays along with a micro SDXC tray in the sim slot section. The device itself comes with 32 GB ROM onboard with expandable memory supporting up to 256 GB.
Overall, the design is a breath of fresh air for those who don’t like to sport a cover on their phone. The build quality is also decent and overall, it’s as good as things get in a four-digit price range.
The Display
The biggest problem with a budget device is the cut corner on the display. Most of the time, the display gets overlooked even though it’s the first contact point of the user experience. Thankfully, Walton did a better job with the display on the GH11.
The display used in the Primo GH11 is an HD+ IPS INCELL panel with a 2.5 D curve. Now it’s still an LCD panel with 720P resolution and realistically, no one was expecting it to compete with the likes of the AMOLED panel.
But the display easily outshines any other panels in its budget range. The INCELL panel provides deep blacks, satisfactory viewing angles, and adequate brightness. Color may seem. A bit washed out but it’s nothing that can’t be calibrated from the settings. Overall, the display makes for a pleasant viewing experience with its limited capabilities.
The Camera
The vertical camera system on the Primo GH11 is placed on a slightly raised rectangular housing. There are a total of 3 sensors in the system with the main sensor being a 13 MP wide-angle shooter. It features autofocus and LED flash along with some flashy AI edge detection technology. The other two sensors are unrated but the best guess is they are a macro and depth shooter. But since they come without any spec details, they can be considered practically useless.
Speaking of the performance, the sensor performs well in outdoor and well-lit environments. But things start to get hazy and grainy indoors and in low light. The AI branding doesn’t do much as edge detection is a hit or miss every time. Also, the dynamic range is almost nonexistent but that was expected.
The front features a 5 MP sensor which is also an entry-level iteration. The sensor is good enough for casual selfies and the all-important face unlock feature. The videography is limited to 1080P only but that’s also a letdown as there aren’t any stabilization features with the sensor.
Processor and Performance
Walton is known for punching above the budget as far as the processor is concerned. The GH11, with all its budget constraints, features a Helio A22 processor based on the octa-core design with CCortex-A53 chipset onboard.
The processor can be compared with the early Snapdragon 600 series processors which were bare minimum upgrades from the 400 series. The processor is coupled with PowerVR Rogue GE8300 GPU which is also a basic GPU.
So how good does the processor perform? It will smoothly work if the usage is limited to casual browsing and YouTube. Users can also play games here but 3D titles won’t really be playable. Overall, it’s a light force device best suited for reliability over performance.
Battery and Charge Time
The Walton Primo GH11 comes with a 4200 mAh battery. Given the low-powered processor and the display, the battery is good enough to last about 8 to 10 hours of continuous usage. There isn’t any fast charger with the device so expect long charging hours.
Price of Walton Primo GH11 in Bangladesh
The official price of the Walton Primo GH11 in Bangladesh is 9,990 BDT. But currently, the company is running a cashback offer of 1,500 BDT which brings the cost downs to 7,500 BDT approximately.
