Redmi Note 12 Turbo Harry Potter Edition: Enter the magical wizarding world

Xiaomi’s Redmi Note 12 Turbo edition was released on March 28, 2023 in Mainland China. On the same day, Redmi also released a Harry Potter Special limited-edition version. Let’s check out what the Harry Potter fans will get in the Redmi Note 12 Turbo Harry Potter Edition.

Design

Much of the specialty of this edition has to do with the unboxing experience itself. Users would get a chunky box with the special edition, much like those large magic spell books seen in the movie.

Opening the fold, users will be greeted with the iconic Hogwarts acceptance letter received by Harry. It’s the same as the original complete with wax sealing. The included SIM ejector tool has been branded with the nine-three quarter sign and the user manual is designed just like the Marauder’s map. It’s these little things that make the unboxing experience such a magical one.

Moving onto other stuff, users will be getting a charging brick, cable, and a designer case with faux leather finishing. There are also some classic Harry Potter stickers for the geeks.

Now let’s talk about the device itself. Dimension wise the device is exactly the same as Redmi Note 12 Turbo. But the mag-ic is happening at the back. There’s a lot to take in from the centaur, sorting hat, Quidditch game, quill to the broom, and of course, the ever-magical Hogwarts logo. The motto of the school, “Draco Dormiens Nunquam Titillandus” is printed brightly on the emblem. And if it ever crossed as to what it means, it stands for “Do not tickle the sleeping dragon”.

There is also the Redmi special edition branding on the bottom and the Harry Potter typography at the top. The camera sensors have been cheekily designed to represent Harry’s spectacles complete with his lightning scar.

Overall, the design and the unboxing experience of the Harry Potter special edition will be absolutely magical, to say the least. For any Potterhead or a general enthusiast, this device would definitely be a collectible piece worth admiring.

The display

The display on the Redmi Note 12 Turbo is a 1080P OLED panel with a 120 Hz refresh rate, Dolby Vision, and HDR10+ sup-port. As mentioned earlier, there is no dimension or spec difference between the special edition and the regular version of the Note 12 Turbo. So enthusiasts will also be getting the same specs.

The panel itself is decent. It has that typical Xiaomi warm tone to it which can easily be calibrated from the display settings. The viewing angles are pretty good and the high refresh rate makes it a delight to interact with. Overall, the display is easily one of the strong features of the Note 12 Turbo.

The camera

The goggle-designed camera on the Note 12 Turbo special edition actually has three lenses. The main camera is a 64 MP wide-angle shooter with an 8 MP ultrawide and a 2 MP macro shooter. It’s clear from the spec that the main camera will be doing all the heavy lifting.

In the test, the camera produced decent results in outdoor conditions. Even under bright sunlight, the camera was able to accurately reproduce colours and maintain dynamic range. However, there might be some exposure issues in artificial light-ing conditions and indoors resulting in slightly soft and grainy images. Users will have access to night mode to mitigate this issue to some extent.

The main camera can also shoot at 4K at 30 fps and up to 240 fps at 1080P. There is also a 16 MP front camera on the de-vice.

Processor and performance

The Redmi Note 12 Turbo is powered by Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 processor. Since the introduction of the new naming scheme, the 7 Gen series has become a premium upper mid-range processor. It brings a good balance of performance and efficiency all the while helping brands to cut down on the cost.

The octa-core chipset is coupled with Adreno 725 for a better graphics output. And the choice doesn’t disappoint.

In the test, the Note 12 Turbo was able to play all of the leading titles like PUBG, COD, and Asphalt 9 without any frame drop. The only gripe here is that the device becomes heated after 30-odd minutes of gaming. But there was no issue relat-ing to thermal throttling.

For day-to-day tasks, the processor would be more than fast enough considering the high refresh rate display it’s coupled with. Also, the special edition will boast 12 GB RAM and 256 GB of internal storage.

The only disappointment, considering it’s the special edition, is the lack of any customized software.

Previously other companies released a customized version of their OS to cater to the special edition enthusiast like the ones seen on the OnePlus 8T Cyberpunk edition. Instead, users will only be getting the vanilla MIUI 14.

Battery and charge time

There is no special magic for the special edition Redmi Note 12 Turbo when it comes to battery and charging. Instead, users will be getting the standard 5000 mAh battery with 67W fast charging support. And considering the charging brick comes in the box, it sounds like a pretty sweet deal.

Price of Redmi Note 12 Turbo Harry Potter edition

The price of the Redmi Note 12 Turbo Harry Potter Edition is 2440 CNY. That roughly translates to around Tk 37,598. The special edition is not launched in Bangladesh yet. The official price of Redmi Note 12 Turbo Harry Potter Edition in Bangla-desh may vary due to tax and other issues.

Final words

For most people, the standard Note 12 Turbo would be the go-to choose. But that is not why special editions are made.

A special edition device is meant to invoke a sense of geeky fanboy feeling which would emulate personal identity.

The special edition Harry Potter Redmi Note 12 Turbo isn’t for everyone. It is for those who grew up with Harry and the wizarding world of Hogwarts, Hogsmeade, or Diagon Alley, the Redmi Note 12 Turbo is like a wand, to invoke magic into the muggle’s world.
