BRAC Executive Director Asif Saleh has said they are struggling to avail money from the Green Climate Fund (GCF) due to its critical process.

He made this statement during a capacity building and strategy workshop on facilitating media engagement at COP 27 and beyond being held at BRAC Centre Inn in Dhaka on Thursday.

“Due to GCF’s bureaucratic complexity, Brac has been struggling for three years to avail the fund. If this is the case for one of the biggest NGO in Bangladesh what will happen when local level organisations apply for funds?” Asif Saleh asked.

"The process should be made easier so that victim countries can easily get funds to tackle the impact of climate change,” he added.

“Climate change is related to livelihood, food security, water and sanitation, and many other aspects of life. Its impact has already spread in all sectors. People are migrating and rivers are eroding in Bangladesh. It is time for everyone to be aware of these facts,” the executive director of BRAC said.

He also pointed out that Bangladesh has very low contribution in climate change.

"Locally lead adaptation will be more prominent issue to discuss in this year's COP in Africa. However, our government has to work on resilient building," he added.
