Cyclone 'Mocha' may hit Bangladesh coast at 170km

A cyclone is likely to form in the Bay of Bengal between May 9 and 11.

The cyclone named “Mocha” is expected to hit the Bangladesh coast between May 13 and 16 at a speed of 170km.

Weather and Climate PhD Researcher and Meteorologist at the University of Saskatchewan, Canada Mostafa Kamal Palash, gave this information through a Facebook post on Monday.

According to the American and European weather forecast, a low pressure may develop over southwest Andaman and Nicobar Islands in South Bay of Bengal between May 8 and 9. The low pressure may develop into a deep depression by May 10 and a cyclonic storm by May 11.

As per the forecast, the cyclone is predicted to directly hit the coastal regions of Barisal and Chattogram from midnight of May 14.

Earlier in May 2020, also several strong cyclones like Ayala and Amphan hit some coastal districts of Bangladesh and West Bengal coast which caused massive damage.
