Mercury to keep rising throughout Bangladesh

A severe heat wave is sweeping over a number of districts while a mild to moderate heat wave is sweeping elsewhere over the country and it may continue.

“Severe heat wave is sweeping over the districts of Dhaka, Faridpur, Manikganj, Pabna, Bagerhat, Jashore, Chuadanga and Kushtia. Mild to moderate heat wave is sweeping elsewhere over the country and it may continue,” said a met office forecast for the next 24 hours from 9am on Sunday.

There is no possibility of immediate relief from the scorching heat in the country as the weather department had said rain is unlikely within three days.

Kazi Jebunnesa, an assistant meteorologist at the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD), told UNB that there is no possibility of rain within the next three days and the ongoing heat wave will continue.

Trough of Westerly low lies over West Bengal and adjoining areas. Seasonal low lies over South Bay.

Weather may remain dry with temporary partly cloudy sky over the country, it said, adding that day temperature may remain nearly unchanged and night temperature may rise slightly over the country.

Country’s maximum temperature on Saturday was recorded 42.2 degree Celsius at Chuadanga and minimum temperature on Sunday was recorded 19.4 degrees Celsius at Syedpur.

The sun sets at 6:20pm on Sunday and rises at 5:36am on Monday in the capital.

 

Dhaka sweltered through hottest day in 58 years

Amid the severe heatwave which is sweeping parts of the country, Dhaka witnessed the highest temperature in 58 days on Saturday.

BMD recorded the day’s temperature at 40.4 degrees Celsius. This is the highest temperature recorded in the capital since 1965,

The severe heatwave is sweeping over the Khulna division, Dhaka, Faridpur, Manikganj, Rajshahi, Pabna and Patuakhali districts, read a Met office bulletin.

The season’s highest temperature in the country was recorded in Chuadanga at 41.7 degree Celsius on Friday.
