The daily routines of residents in the Kurigram district are severely affected as a persistent mild cold wave engulfs the area. This weather phenomenon has been particularly challenging for children and the elderly, exacerbating their struggles.
Subal Chandra Sarkar, the officer-in-charge at Kurigram Agricultural Meteorological Observatory, noted that temperatures have plunged to 14.2 degrees Celsius. He anticipates a further decrease in the coming days.
The impact of the cold wave is most acute among children and seniors from low-income families, as well as among local farmers. Additionally, the harsh weather conditions are preventing many day labourers from seeking work outside.
In response to the crisis, local authorities have arranged for the distribution of 45,000 blankets, with plans to commence distribution shortly.
The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) forecasts dry weather with occasional partly cloudy skies across the country. There is also a prediction of moderate to thick fog occurring from midnight to morning.
