Experts for ‘Just Transition’ to curb climate stress

A workshop – to share climate actions experience in Bangladesh and Cambodia – has underscored the need to ensure just transition, knowledge sharing, and promotion of best practices to minimise climate stress, and enhance adaptation capacity to achieve climate.

Experts emphasised on the whole of society approach and making the transition inclusive and fair to ensure highest benefit of the climate actions, reads a press release issued Saturday.

A five-member delegation from the trade union movement of Cambodia and trade union leaders from Bangladesh, along with civil society representatives participated in this two-day workshop.

OSHE International organised this event, with the support from Solidarity Center – a USA based development agency.

The Cambodia delegation appreciated the Government of Bangladesh for inclusion of just transition as one of the key priority agenda in Mujib Climate Prosperity Plan and also lauded private sector role for expansion of green factories in RMG sector.

They also emphasised on advancing the just transition agenda in Asian countries and engagement of trade unions in mainstreaming climate action ensuring social dialogue.

Renowned climate experts of Bangladesh shared best practices of climate actions in Bangladesh including national level policies and plans.

Nationally Determined Contribution-NDC of Bangladesh and Cambodia were also shared in the workshop and emphasised the needs for clear reference of just transition at the NDCs at both countries and spaces for stakeholder engagement in the process of implementation of NDCs in respective countries.

The Cambodian team will visit the Climate Center and Green Factories in Gazipur.

Repon Chowdhury, International Coordinator of OSHE International presided over the closing session.
