The country’s maritime ports have been advised to hoist the local cautionary signal 3 as deep convection is taking place over the North Bay due to active monsoon, said the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) on Monday.

Squally weather is likely to affect the maritime ports of Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla and Payra, said the Met office.

The low-pressure area over northwest Bay and adjoining Odisha-West Bengal coasts now lies over North Odisha and adjoining areas, it said.

All fishing boats and trawlers in the North Bay have been advised to remain close to the coast and proceed with caution until further notice, it reads.

BMD also predicted rains or thundershowers in different parts of the country, including Dhaka, over 24 hours starting from 9am Monday.

"Light to moderate rains or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty wind are likely to occur at most places over Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet and at a few places over Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka and Mymensingh with moderately heavy to heavy falls at places over southern part of the country," the Met office said.

The highest, 67mm, rainfall was recorded in Barishal district in the country in 24 hours till 6am on Monday.

The country may witness more rain over the next 72 hours, it reads.

Day and night temperatures may fall slightly over the country, the weather forecast added.

The country’s highest temperature, 36.1 degrees Celsius, was recorded in Rangpur.
